Sacramento Author Releases New Political Thriller, Midnight in America

Sacramento, Feb 6, 2026:  Fulton Books has scheduled the release of Sacramento-based writer Mark De Anda’s premier novel, Midnight in America, a new political thriller set in San Francisco available on Feb. 15. Released to strong advance reviews, the fictional tale tells the story of corruption at the highest levels of government to demonize a renowned broadcaster for his investigative reporting, and the tragic results that ensue.

Nationally renowned broadcaster Billy McKinnon's life has hit the skids—his wife has left him, a demented American "patriot” wants to kill him, and the president of the United States wants him off the air. Abandoning his previously comfortable New York life, he accepts a new job 3.000 miles away in San Francisco.

Shortly after arriving, with the aid of SFPD sergeant Frank Grecco, Billy and the sergeant unearth a bogus sex scandal alleged between the San Francisco mayor's daughter and the independent San Francisco board president. After uncovering dark money payments from the president's own super PAC to the San Francisco board president's husband’s account, Billy McKinnon finds himself, his broadcast team, and his family in the cross hairs of both the president, and a man set on enacting his own brand of violent justice.

“As a 28-year broadcaster, I’ve seen the recent distrust of honest news reporting. When I first started writing this seven years ago, it was meant to be a cautionary tale, one that could never happen here in our country. Well, things have changed”, De Anda said. The title, he adds, comes from the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ “Doomsday Clock”, and its recent forewarning that we are “85 seconds to midnight”, the closest the Doomsday Clock  has ever been in its history.

Seasoned with memorable characterizations and snappy dialogue reminiscent of the works of Carl Hiaasen, Midnight in America delivers a fast-paced inside look at the shifting nature of political retribution toward the news media and its impending consequences.

Midnight in America, published by Fulton Books, is scheduled for release on Feb. 15 and will be available on all streaming platforms as well as local brick and mortar book stores. More information is available on the author’s website, www.markdeanda.com.
